Here it is... The Holy Grail! The greatest thrash metal album ever released. Ok, that may just be my opinion. But my favorite thrash album has catchier, heavier riffs than yours.
"Idolatry" was released in 1991, way back in the waning years of commercial thrash metal. Around that time the real thrash metal started surfacing. Devastation, Demolition Hammer and Sacrifice to name a few were incorporating elements of death metal into their releases for a heavier, faster, more aggressive style of thrash metal popularized by pioneers like Dark Angel. Hell, this particular masterpiece was produced by Scott Burns and recorded at Morrisound Studio in Tampa Florida, which as most people know was the formula du jour for recording American death metal in the early nineties.
Over the years, I've never grown tired of this release. From the muddy, thick guitar tracks like "Legacy of Faith" and "Forsaken Hatred", to the headbanging, catchy brutality of songs like "Idolatry" and "Subconscious". There isn't a single weak track or riff to be found here. "Idolatry" will fuck you from start to finish.
As mentioned before, this slab was originally released in 1991 on Combat Records but has since been re-released. First in 1999 by Century Media with live bonus tracks and again in 2008 by Forged in Fire (Rockadrome) with three newly released tracks.
idolatry!
