Black Funeral-Vukolak

As far as Black Metal from the United States goes, Black Funeral have been one of my favorite bands since their demo days. Never short on grim spookiness and depressive overtures Black Funeral release their best album since "Vampyr-Throne of the Beast" with their latest offering. The band's mastermind, Michael Ford has immersed himself in other non-black metal projects such as Valefor and Darkness Enshroud. At times you feel some elements from those projects creep into Black Funerals sound, sometimes a little more than you'd like. Fortunately, it's not over-done on this album. Don't get me wrong, I like such elements. It's just that if I want to hear much of that I'll pop in some Valefor. The into, outro, tracks 6 and 8 are the most dark ambient heavy tracks, but they are well done and add nice atmosphere. "Vukolak" reeks of anguish and sorrow. It's haunting and bleak... It's a fine work of art.
