Lifelover - Konkurs

When you listen to a band like Lifelover you end up asking yourself "When has something so bleak and depressing rocked like this?" The inevitable answer is "Never". That's because Sweden's Lifelover is where the roads of depressive black metal and rock music intersect. "But does it work?" you ask. The answer is "Absolutely!". And most of that can be atrributted to the brilliant vocal work of Kim Carlsson (it's a dude) and the sometimes minimal but often melodic guitar sound on this album. The song writing is quite honestly something that isn't really comparable to anything you have heard before.

This ain't gonna be everyone's cup of tea obviously, all I can suggest is that you check it out for yourself and reach your own conclusions. Chances are you'll either find it brilliant or decide it's one of the thousands of other bands you'd probably rather not hear from again. Never hurts to give it a try though.

Konkurs is a pretty moody fuckin' album no matter how you slice it and at the very least they deserve heaps of credit for their ability to convey such emotion through their art.
