Anthrax - Sound of White Noise

I am probably in the minority on this one, but i find this record highly underrated. Whether you are with me or not, i really dont care. I have owned this cd since i was a teenager and it still sounds good to my ears. It was the first Anthrax record to go in a different direction then the thrash they were known and loved for making. whether it was pressure from the record label or just simply them trying to reroute to remain, i dont really know, and i dont care. This is also the first album to feature new vocalist John Bush previously of Armored Saint replacing Joey Belladonna. And what we have here is really not a thrash record at all, more of a grunge influenced groove metal that they wouldnt repeat since. The lyrics are mostly very dark and depressing, the guitars are thick and muddy creating a fairly bleak atmosphere with Charlie Benante's drumming adding to the overally heaviness with great rhythm and catchy fills. Bush's gruff yet melodic vocals are also in top form here, spitting stories of hate and cynical bile.
