Witchkiller - Day Of The Saxons (EP)
This one is for those of True Metal, others can leave the hall. This is galloping war themed heavy metal much in the vein of Omen and Manowar, with a vocalist that sounds much like Dio at times and ill be damned if anyone could ever have a complaint about that. Witchkiller formed in 81, putting out a few demos before being picked up by metal blade to put this out, released another EP the following year and then nothing has been released by them since although they apparently are active and still on the metal blade roster. So if you havent heard this forgotten classic, do Crom proud and do so.

A Tortured Soul - Lucifers Fate
I discovered this band through one of my metal forum binges, and what a discovery it was. A Tortured Soul hail from Milwaukee and play a type of traditional metal with modern metal influences all done right. The music and lyrics are dark and well written, the riffs and leads are often melodic yet retain that dark edge and the pace is often brooding and moody. The real star here however is vocalist Rick Black with his King Diamond meets Rob Halford voice, and that is not a half ass comparison by any means, this guy is fucking metal and his skill should be able to elevate his band to a much larger status. Primal fear and Hammerfall, watch your asses.

Dark Forest - Dawn of Infinity
Cruz Del Sur records strikes again! Second full length by British trad metallers Dark Forest, with Christian Horton of Cloven Hoof fame on guitar duty. Galloping, soaring heavy metal is the name of the game here of course, and they do it like veterans. NWOBHM fans be sure not to miss this!

Jaguar - Power Games
Heres a piece of somewhat unsung NWOBHM. Its no Angel Witch or Cloven hoof, but still an enjoyable piece of speedy melodic british steel. The riffs and solos are excellent, solid rhythm section, but the vocalist was probably the weakest link.

Unholy Cadaver - Unholy Cadaver
Unholy Cadaver was the band that eventually became the awesome Hammers of Misfortune. They then decided to reform as a side project recently and released this album. It basically sounds like hammers playing black/death metal, and that is essentially what it is. Its kind of an odd mixed bag but they make it work, and any band with Mike Scalzi and John Cobbett cannot fail.

Forsaken - After the Fall
Great epic doom from the country of Malta. In the vein of Candlemass with great Dio sounding vocals. this band is popular among the doom fanatics, and after a few listens myself, i can see why.
